Weinviertel wines with an impressive winning streak
The Weinviertel set a new record with 9 out of 18 winners at the Niederösterreich State Wine Awards and 5 champions at the SALON Austrian Wine, once again confirming that Weinviertel wines are among the best in Austria.
The Weinviertel, one of the eight wine-growing regions of Niederösterreich, recently took first place in the most important and largest blind tasting in the state of Lower Austria (Niederösterreich) winning half of all gold medals awarded. This success streak now continues on a national level with sensational five victories in the SALON Austrian Wine.
The SALON Austrian Wine determines the best wines from all over Austria in independent tastings. The best from these prestigious ranks are the 17 SALON champions and five of these come from the Weinviertel. The Weinviertel already excelled with a sensational 9 out of 18 champions at the Niederösterreich State National Wine Awards 2019. In addition to this, the Weinviertel producer Weingut Hagn was named the best winery of the year for the fifth time with two regional champion wines and four finalists. The Niederösterreich State Wine Awards is the largest wine competition in the country: 5,600 wines submitted are tasted blind and strictly evaluated by expert jurors. The competition is recognised as confirmation of quality and is appreciated by both winegrowers and consumers as an orientation aid in the search for outstanding wines from Niederösterreich.
Hans Setzer, Chairman of the Regional Wine Committee Weinviertel, is very pleased with these successful tastings and emphasises how unprecedented they are in the history of Austrian wine: “The number of top awards that the Weinviertel winegrowers received for their wines this year is sensational. Once again, we set an admirable example with the quality of Weinviertel wines and confirm at home what we are increasingly able to achieve internationally. Weinviertel wines enjoy unprecedented esteem.”
